MicroVal renews 13 method certifications in the first half of 2026

Every MicroVal-certified method is published on the MicroVal website, together with its corresponding technical report. MicroVal certificates are valid for four years. After this period, certificates can be extended through the MicroVal renewal process, after which the renewed certificate is published on the website.

In the first half of 2026, up to the end of June, MicroVal approved the renewal of 13 method certifications based on ISO 16140-2 (alternative methods for detection and enumeration). These renewals confirm the continued certification of a diverse range of methods from several method developers.

The renewed certifications are:

First certificate for Bio-Rad Laboratories’ EZ-Check Listeria spp. Kit

In May 2026, Bio-Rad Laboratories, Inc. successfully obtained its first MicroVal certificate for the EZ-Check Listeria spp. Kit. The kit is validated for the detection of Listeria spp. across a broad range of food products and production environmental samples. 

The validation study was conducted in parallel with the study of the EZ-Check Listeria monocytogenes Kit (2025LR136) and demonstrated the method’s performance in accordance with the applicable ISO 16140-2 validation requirements. 

This certification further expands the portfolio of rapid, validated methods available to food testing laboratories, supporting efficient monitoring of Listeria spp. across diverse food matrices and production environments.

New certificate for Bio-Rad Laboratories’s EZ-Check Listeria monocytogenes Kit

In May 2026, Bio-Rad Laboratories, Inc. successfully achieved MicroVal certification for its EZ-Check Listeria monocytogenes Kit, validating the method for the detection of Listeria monocytogenes across a broad range of food products and production environmental samples.

The validation study was conducted by Q Laboratories in accordance with ISO 16140-2:2016 and ISO 16140-2:2016/Amd. 1:2024. The method was evaluated against the reference methods ISO 11290-1:2017, supported by the relevant sample preparation and surface sampling standards.

The certified scope covers seven major categories: raw and pasteurized dairy products, ready-to-eat (RTE) and ready-to-reheat (RTRH) meat and poultry, cooked fishery and seafood products, raw fruits and vegetables, multicomponent foods, egg and egg products, and production environmental samples.

The validation also includes an alternative confirmation procedure, enabling direct plating from the primary enrichment onto RAPID’ Listeria, RAPID’ L. mono, and ALOA agar, followed by confirmation of typical colonies using another MicroVal ISO 16140-6 validated method, such as the Bruker MALDI Biotyper (MBT).

This certification expands the range of validated rapid methods available to food testing laboratories, supporting reliable detection of Listeria monocytogenes and strengthening food safety monitoring across diverse food matrices and production environments.
