MicroVal Working group Milk

Growing demand for the validation of milk analysis methods, particularly methods for determining somatic cell count and total bacterial count, led MicroVal to establish a dedicated working group. These validation studies are conducted in accordance with internationally recognised ISO/IDF standards, including ISO 8196, ISO 13366 and ISO 16297.

The MicroVal Working group Milk brings together experts with extensive scientific knowledge of dairy microbiology. Each member has at least five years of experience in food or dairy microbiology, has worked within an ISO/IEC 17025-accredited quality management system and is familiar with methods for analysing milk from different species, including cows, sheep and goats.

The members contribute on a voluntary basis by reviewing validation studies and participating in two-hour online meetings. Since its first meeting on 12 September 2023, the working group has met five times.

The current members are Harrie van den Bijgaart (chair, QALacta), Pierre Broutin (Bentley Instruments), Anne Buckle (Milchprüfring Baden-Württemberg), Mette Fachmann (FOSS Analytical), and Su Yao (CICC).
